Africa Environment Day 2016

Harare province commemorated Africa Environment Day on the 4th of March 2016, at Mukuvisi Woodlands. A total of 24 Eco-schools participated with a total attendance of 420 people. The commemoration was held in the form of environmental games focusing on waste management and game count. The event was commemorated under the theme “Empowering Communities for Sustainable Natural Resources Management”.  Eco-schoolswere encouraged to be vibrant and to implement environmental projects.

Africa Environment Day was established by the Organization of African Unity in 2002 as a way of raising awareness on the pressing environmental challenges facing the continent. Since 2012, the Africa Environment Day has been celebrated on the 3rd of March in conjunction with Wangari Maathai Day, in order to pay tribute to the late Nobel Laureate's green legacy.
