Call for Proposals

The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) in collaboration with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) invites research proposals focusing on sustainable environmental management through safe disposal of waste. Hazardous Waste management is one of the most topical environmental challenges in Zimbabwe’s urban centers, mining areas and farming areas. Effective waste management is identified as one of the cluster outputs of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZIMASSET).

The purpose of this Call for Proposals is, therefore, to support an eligible research project in the design and engineering of cost-effective and efficient landfills for hazardous waste. The landfill design would culminate in the second phase of the research where a prototype will be constructed at Suri Suri Research Centre in Chegutu.

Funding is open, on a competitive basis, to Zimbabwean researchers who will be affiliated to local Academic Institutions, Research Institutions and Government Research Departments. Researchers from the Private Sector and Non-profit organizations affiliated to a Zimbabwean approved public institute are also encouraged to apply. Consortia of the above, with one institution as lead applicant assuming responsibility and accountability can also apply. Eligible research proposals must focus on hazardous waste disposal management within the context of this Call only.

·      The evaluation and selection of proposals will comprise verification of the proposal eligibility.

·      Confidential peer review of the proposals by experts.

·      Short listing of reviewed research proposals.
